This year, Team Viettel brought to Pwn2Own Toronto 2023 a lineup of 16 Information Security (InfoSec) experts, with 75% of them being from Generation Z. The white-hat hackers from VCS conducted penetration testing on various target devices, including mobile phones, three types of printers, smart speakers, SOHO Smash-up (small office devices), and network storage devices. Team Viettel achieved a perfect score in all 7 categories, totaling 30 points, surpassing the second-place team by 12.75 points and becoming the world champion convincingly.
Pwn2Own is a prestigious and the world's largest network attack competition organized annually by Zero Day Initiative since 2007, often referred to as the World Cup of cybersecurity. In 2023, more than 20 teams from 17 countries had participated. VCS's expert team has joined Pwn2Own 6 times, achieving 5th place in their first attempt. Winning the Pwn2Own 2023 title helps VCS further solidify its position as an internationally renowned information security entity, making a significant mark on the global cybersecurity map.
Previously, VCS's InfoSec experts had been recognized by the international community, global cybersecurity rankings, and major technology companies such as Microsoft, Bugcrowd, Google, etc. To date, VCS has discovered more than 400 Zero-day security vulnerabilities in major IT platforms and systems like Microsoft, Oracle, Google, Apache, VMWare, contributing to minimizing network attacks and enhancing global cybersecurity knowledge.
About Pwn2Own, this year's event featured eight different categories for participants, including Mobile Phones, Home Automation Hubs, Smart Speakers, Printers, Surveillance Systems, Network Attached Storage – NAS, Google Devices, and Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) Smash-up, with a total prize pool of over USD 1 million.
