This is the first data center in Vietnam designed with high capacity, double the average, to meet the growing demands of AI development, requiring high-performance chips and increased computational power.
With 60,000 servers, over 2,400 racks, 21,000m² of floor space, and a total power capacity of 30MW, the Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center is now the largest data center in Vietnam.
This 14th data center adds to Viettel’s extensive infrastructure, bringing the total to 230,000 servers, 81,000m² of floor space, 11,500 racks, and 87MW of electricity, equivalent to a global super data center. This underscores Viettel's strong commitment to building modern digital infrastructure in Vietnam.
The Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center has received several green certifications, including standards for energy management, environmental impact management, and occupational hygiene management. It is the first data center in Vietnam to use renewable energy for 30% of its electricity consumption.
The energy efficiency coefficient (COP) exceeds 6.0, which is 40% higher than other chiller systems, and the power usage effectiveness (PUE) index for IT equipment is between 1.4 and 1.45, 12% lower than existing data centers in Vietnam. HSBC has certified the center as eligible for Green Credit.
"Viettel will continue to invest in data centers. According to our roadmap, by 2025, Viettel will expand to 17,000 racks. By 2030, Viettel will scale up to 34,000 racks. We are ready to provide Vietnamese enterprises with the cloud computing resources they need to achieve safe, flexible, and efficient data storage and processing," said Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Chairman cum General Director of Viettel, at the event.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Viettel's data center, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized, "Viettel plans to develop at least three more data centers in the next two years with a designed capacity of 240KW, eight times today's size. Hope that Viettel continues to grow and succeed in realizing its pioneering mission as a leading national digital infrastructure enterprise".
In 2023, Viettel’s data centers saved nearly 3,000,000 kWh, equivalent to a reduction of approximately 2,100 tons of CO2 emissions. Viettel is committed to using renewable energy to meet 30% of the electricity consumption at its data centers.
All of Viettel's data centers use high-efficiency UPS systems, resulting in above-average energy use efficiency.
