“On behalf of the Government, I acknowledge, commend, and highly appreciate the efforts, dedication, and progress of Viettel’s team of cybersecurity engineers and experts,” the Prime Minister wrote.
“This championship reflects the remarkable advancements in expertise, technical skills, and specialized knowledge, along with the rich practical experience of Viettel’s team in a challenging and emerging field, bringing pride and joy to our national cybersecurity community.”
On October 25, the Viettel Cyber Security team claimed the championship at Pwn2Own 2024, held in Ireland. Organized annually by the Zero Day Initiative, this year’s event offered a total prize pool of over USD 1 million, the largest in its history.
Viettel Cyber Security won Pwn2Own 2024 by successfully exploiting nine zero-day vulnerabilities (previously unknown security vulnerabilities) in products from HP, Canon, Synology, QNAP Systems, and others, earning a total of 33 points and a prize of over USD 200,000.
This is the second consecutive year that Viettel has won Pwn2Own, achieving the highest number of vulnerabilities discovered and a significant lead over the second-place team. The vulnerabilities identified by VCS also help manufacturers enhance device security, preventing the leakage of images and data for individuals and businesses.
“I hope and trust that Vietnam’s cybersecurity community will continue to achieve significant milestones in the future; in particular, I believe Viettel’s team of experts and engineers will build on these accomplishments, advance their expertise, master new strategic and modern technologies, and proactively participate in safeguarding military, national defense, and critical national information systems,” according to the Prime Minister’s letter.
