The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Tran Quoc Tuan, President of Vietnam Football Federation, and leaders of departments under the Ministry of National Defense.
Over the past 15 years, with strong investment from Viettel Group and the dedication of previous generations of Thể Công players, Viettel Sports Center has focused on developing professional and modern football. It prioritizes human development, selecting, training, and coaching football players comprehensively. Many outstanding young talents from Viettel Sports Center have contributed to the strength of the team. In 2023, Viettel Sports provided 31% of personnel at various levels for the Vietnam national football team.
Vietnam Football Federation affirmed that the new name, Thể Công – Viettel Football Club, will be used in the national football league system starting from the 2023-2024 season. The team's goal for this year is to reach the Top 3, compete for the V.League championship, and reach the National Cup final. The club aims to build an attractive playing style, captivating viewers, and showcasing the identity of Viettel and the spirit of soldiers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia emphasized, "Thể Công – Viettel Football Club continues to uphold its traditions and the spirit of facing challenges that multiple generations of Thể Công clubs have diligently nurtured over the years. It must strengthen the Thể Công playing style, the Thể Công spirit, always taking the field with the determination to fight and win, the spirit of 'win without arrogance, lose without despair,' contributing to elevating the Thể Công – Viettel brand to new heights."
Viettel Football Club won the National First Division championship in 2018 and, within two years of competing in the top-tier football league of Vietnam - V.League, clinched the championship. During this time, the club gained the nickname "successor of Thể Công" from fans.
In response to the attention from the Ministry of National Defense leadership, the Chairman and CEO of Viettel Group, Mr. Tao Duc Thang, affirmed, "Thể Công – Viettel Football Club aims to preserve the military's football identity, build the club into the most successful team in Vietnam with the mission of capturing the hearts of fans, contributing to the achievements of the military sports, and being a pioneering force in the development of national football."

23/9/1954: The Military Sports Delegation (Thể Công) was established.
1955-1979: Thể Công won the Vietnam Class A championship 13 times.
1981-1998: Thể Công won the National Al Championship 5 times.
3/2005: The Ministry of National Defense transferred Thể Công Club to the Military Telecommunications Electronics Company.
2009: U19 team won the National Championship.
2011: U13 Viettel team won the National Youth Championship.

26/10/2014: Renamed Viettel Football Training Center to Viettel Sports Center.
