Viettel is the only enterprise in Vietnam chosen by President Ramos-Horta to engage in significant strategic discussions on technological development.
“As President, I have made the decision to collaborate with Vietnam, specifically through Viettel, in the field of digital technology. I believe that with Viettel, we can access the most advanced technologies in the world. Viettel’s solutions can help third-world countries like Timor-Leste mitigate the risks associated with high technology. We hope that, with Viettel's support, Timor-Leste will possess the most modern technologies available globally.” President Jose Ramos-Horta stated during the meeting.
Recognizing Viettel's pioneering capabilities in technology across Vietnam, Timor-Leste, and many Southeast Asian countries, President Ramos-Horta expressed his desire for Viettel to train Timor-Leste’s technology experts to become skilled ones.
Viettel has been investing in Timor-Leste since 2012 under the brand name Telemor. Since its inception, Telemor has consistently held the leading market share in telecommunications, covering 96% of the population and spearheading digital transformation solutions.
Telemor was the first company to introduce digital entertainment and financial services to Timor-Leste, including Timor TV, the MOSAN e-wallet, and ICT products for both businesses and government institutions.
For the government and various ministries, Telemor provides data center infrastructure, cybersecurity solutions, and training for the Central Bank of Timor-Leste. It also offers solutions for digital population statistics, digitization of maternal healthcare programs, and the national teacher training program.
“With the capabilities in high-tech industrial research and digital transformation, Viettel is committed to investing its best resources, applying the latest technologies, and adhering to the rule of law in order to serve the people and the nation of Timor-Leste.” emphasized Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, during the meeting.
