Viettel is the only enterprise in Vietnam that President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi selected to discuss key strategies for technological development. This makes him the second head of state to visit Viettel this year, recognizing the company as a strategic partner.
“Vietnam and Mozambique have chosen telecommunications as a flagship area of cooperation. We recognize the importance of researching and implementing high-tech projects, technology solutions, and digital transformation. Movitel has not only met these demands but also achieved revenue and profit growth” President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi stated during the meeting.
President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi expressed his desire for Viettel to support Mozambique in training young talents to become global technology experts. He also hopes Viettel will assist in ensuring national security through the telecommunications system.
Viettel has been investing in Mozambique since 2012 under the brand Movitel, which has been dubbed the "Miracle of Africa" for its role in providing coverage to 97% of rural areas, making Mozambique the country with the third-largest telecommunications infrastructure in Africa. Movitel offers free internet connections to more than 2,500 schools across the country.
Movitel was the first company to implement digital transformation and build the e-government infrastructure for Mozambique’s National Assembly Office and other state agencies. Movitel has also played a significant role in popularizing digital financial services, with 81% of its mobile customers using e-wallets.
“With Viettel's strong investments and the immense support from President Nyusi and the Government of Mozambique, Movitel will continue to thrive, transitioning from a traditional telecommunications service provider to a leading telecom-technology company, delivering even greater benefits to Mozambique and its people” emphasized Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel Group, during the meeting.
Viettel has garnered a strong global reputation, with numerous countries extending invitations for investment and business partnerships.
